Level 1 vs. Level 2 Charging
Every EV comes with a Level 1 cord that plugs into a standard outlet. It works, but it’s slow, adding only three to five miles of range per hour. For most households that’s not enough to fully recharge overnight. A Level 2 charger runs on a 240-volt circuit, the same type that powers an electric dryer, and delivers a full charge in a fraction of the time. For daily drivers, Level 2 is almost always the right call.
What the Installation Actually Requires
A proper EV charger installation is more than mounting a box on the garage wall. Our electricians run a dedicated 240-volt circuit from your panel to the charging location, install the correct breaker, and verify your panel has capacity to spare. If it doesn’t, we’ll talk with you about a panel upgrade before we energize the new circuit. Skipping that step is how people end up with nuisance breaker tripping.
Does Your Panel Have Room?
A 200-amp service usually handles a Level 2 charger without trouble. Older 100-amp panels are tighter, and adding a high-draw circuit may push you over. That’s why we start every EV charger project with a quick electrical inspection of your existing panel and service.
Indoor or Outdoor?
Chargers can go in an attached garage, a detached garage, or on an exterior wall for driveway parking. Outdoor installations need weather-rated equipment and careful conduit work, both of which are routine parts of our electrical wiring service.
